Default Opinion on the Prima Guide

I heard the prima guide just came out. I was wondering if it was worth the 20$ to buy it. I know for the most part forums are better, but strategy guides are good for when on the can. However, in past experiences with MMOs (like FFXI) I found the guides to be worthless and not helpful at all, almost as if the creators didnt even play the game.

Is there anything that tells you what skills can be gained from quests? So that I don't have to waste a skill point on it. It would suck if I bought Balthazar's Aura from Droknar's Forge and then found out there was a quest that would give me the Aura just outside of town

The guide is worth the map, that's about it, IMHO.

I will take a look at it my self, but I really don't think that it will have too much that I don't already know in it.I already have my farming spot, but I would see if they say a better one. I really doubt it since I make about 3-6k in 45min or so. Also the guide will never be up to date. Think of how many things have changed in the month that the game has been out.

what do you think has changed in the game in months that would outdate the book? i havent seen anything yet that has changed that is not in the book and im at "the wild" so i cant say if anything is outdated in the book past that...

the book has maps for every area in the game and where every collectors/critters/NPC are and everywhere i have been they have been right were they said they would be.. there are also alot of areas that you dont get missions for and would never know there there withought walking to it... that is why i like the book so much because this way i dont really miss anything even though there is no mission i need there i always travel for better farming spots and collectors

The guide can also be updated online, so, it will never be out of date. Just check out the Prima website.

this doesn't ruin the game for you? isn't the majority of the gaming experience attained from NOT knowing where everything is...and NOT knowing exactly what to do at all times because you read it in some book?

There will always be people who intentionally spoil it for themselves because they LIKE IT THAT WAY. Even if that's not the case, they can do whatever the hell they want.

I, for one, am glad I played (almost) through the whole game without too many spoilers. Although the Prima guide MAY hold your hand through the whole game, doesn't mean you have to do it that way. I am only buying it for portable maps, I can lend it to anyone who needs it for any reason, and it has comprehensive skill information that cannot be found elsewhere, such as skills from quest rewards.

If you were totally correct, and strategy guides are stupid and lame and only idiots use them, then why is Prima still in business?

Because there are a lot of idiots? No, I'm kidding. I usually buy guides for games. Not because I really need them, but because it's more of a collector item for me . . bonuses like pretty pictures and maps. When I can't feed my obsession and actually play the game, then I look at the book. Yes, I am sad and I admit it.

Hmm.. well I, for one, am completely surrounded by idiots. I'm thinking their massive population could easily keep an operation like Prima going...

/jk. I'll definitely be buying the guide soonish. As the OP mentioned: it's good for on the can

One thing thats already outdated in the book is the location you can capture Barrage, Markis isn't mentioned, and to my knowledge, the mobs listed nolonger have it

Heh, yeah it can be updated, for an additional $9.99 for each update. I'm sorry but if you've paid for the book, you should be able to download the updates for free (just include a code in the book that gets tied to an email), afterall, you don't see White Wolf or TSR charging for any errata that's released, just for new complete versions of the book.

Well, considering that one of my characters had already followed the missions/storyline to its conclusion before the guide hit the store shelves, NO. Now, I have a handy reference for my other character and for my husband's characters.

First thing I was not saying there was just a bunch of game altering changes that would completely Out Date the guide, but there have been changes, and on top of that the first "free" major update/new area is about to come out. Do you think that area will be in the book? no. Are you going to pay another $10 on top of the $20 you already spent to get the update that will fallow? Change is constant, and never ending especially in the on line game world. The map is about the only thing that I would like out of it
